Job Description

The U.S. Regulatory Reporting team delivers Bank Holding Company regulatory filings in accordance with the Federal Reserve requirements for American Express Company and its underlying subsidiaries. We perform independent processes to prepare, review and analyze financial information with a key focus on controls and compliance and addressing Federal Reserve requirements, including new reports. We work extensively with our own Market Financial Controllers, Subject Matter Experts, SEC Reporting team, General Counsel’s Office, and the Regulators themselves, among others. This position will be responsible for managing and delivering key regulatory reporting filings such as, but not limited to, FR Y-9C, FR Y-9LP, FR Y-11, Form 2314, FR Y-14, FR Y-12 and FR Y-15. This individual will lead a global team that works with several groups within American Express and external regulators during the course of these filings. The position will involve close interactions with the regulators and senior management to comply with any new regulations and change in regulatory reporting requirements. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • Ensure compliance with Federal Reserve and other regulatory reporting requirements, the Company’s internal review procedures and all other applicable policies and procedures. • Drive implementation of analytical and reporting processes, procedures and systems using the Company’s control framework. • Work closely and coordinate with various Subject Matter Experts and External Reporting leaders. • Respond to inquiries from the Federal Reserve as well as other key internal stakeholders. • Support the development of strong working relationships and communication with the Federal Reserve. • Support/lead special projects including partnering with American Express Technologies on key automation initiatives and enhancing policies and procedures around the regulatory reporting process. • Provide leadership to Financial Analysts and Managers in the Regulatory Reporting team. • Drive employee engagement, provide career development opportunities for Regulatory Reporting team members and support work/life balance initiatives.

Qualifications

8-9 years experience in Accounting / Reporting / Auditing. At least 2-3 years in public accounting a plus. • Graduate degree required. Chartered Accountant/CPA, preferably. • Prior Regulatory/Federal Reserve/SEC/External Reporting and banking/financial services experience a plus though not required. • Project management experience preferred • Experience working in financial services or other highly regulated environment preferred • Strong understanding of Regulatory, US GAAP, and SEC reporting and accounting guidelines. • A self starter, proactive team player with a passion to consistently deliver high quality service and exceed customers’ expectations. • Ability to lead, coach, develop and promote talent. • Ability to understand a Company’s businesses, processes and unique internal financial reporting systems and operations • A quick learner with superior problem solving skills. Focused on generating efficiencies and continuous process improvements. • Ability to manage multiple priorities, drive projects, improve processes, and work well under time-pressured deadlines • Demonstrated willingness to take initiative and act decisively • Strong written/oral communication, relationship building, presentation and collaboration skills. • Proven ability to effectively interact with all levels and stakeholders of an organization including senior leadership/officers, Board members as well as with external regulators and auditors.
