Tax Manager Gartner - India--Mumbai

Role: Primarily responsible for all Indian tax compliance and submissions covering corporate tax, service tax and withholding taxes including tax returns, internal reporting and tax accounting 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Responsible for all Indian tax compliance and submissions covering corporate tax, service tax and withholding taxes including tax returns, internal reporting and tax accounting,
  • Manage all Indian tax audits - developing audit strategy, collation of information/analyses, working with external service providers to provide input to draft and undertake the primary review of submissions, attendance at all audit hearings appropriately communicating and coordinating with wider tax group stakeholders
  • Hold routine meetings with the Indian Tax Authority and manage related submissions
  • Provide local input to transfer pricing compliance work and initiatives
  • Supervise, coach and develop newly appointed tax associate direct report
  • Become the trusted tax adviser to local finance and business units for all tax matters
  • Identify and escalate unusual or significant accounting and tax related issues to the global tax team with recommendation of actions
  • Support the global tax team on various non-Indian tax compliance work (scope to be determined) and ad hoc tax projects as required.
  • Managing, developing and coaching tax associate.


  • Qualifications

    Qualification/Experience 

  • Must have Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent
  • Must be a Indian Chartered Accountant or equivalent
  • Should be a tax qualified practitioner with 5 to 7 years post qualification with strong experience in domestic and international corporate taxation.
  • Thorough technical knowledge on Indian Corporate Tax, with International Tax experience and additional knowledge of transfer pricing preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Proven track record of handling corporate tax related issues which includes handling all aspects of tax audits, appeals and representations in front of the Tribunal and IT commissioner.
  • Able to self manage working independently taking the initiative on projects as new issues arise
  • Strong ability to question advice provided by external service providers and be able to present succinct summaries of facts and recommendations for internal review
  • Knowledge of US GAAP tax accounting desirable
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail, strong sense of ownership and strong demonstrated ability to prioritize, organization and multi-tasking skills, a commitment to tight deadlines, as well as project management and problem resolution skills
